BASSSTERRE,
ST. KITTS, MARCH 10, 2005 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts
continues to be a preferred destination for the Queen
Mary II, dubbed by its owners Cunard, as the largest,
longest, greatest, tallest, grandest and widest cruise
liner in the world.
With nine calls to St. Kitts' Port Zante
to date - 8 of them so far this Winter Season - the
150,000 gross tons US$800 million Queen Mary II hits
the high seas with four more visits in as many weeks
in a slew of sailings from New York to the Caribbean
and back.
The eight-day "Mariner's Caribbean"
cruises started March 9 and departs weekly from New
York to the Caribbean with stops in St. Kitts, St. Maarten
and St. Thomas. Four full days will be spent at sea.
It will berth at St. Kitts' Port Zante
on March 13, 21 and 29 and April 6. St. Kitts is the
only destination of the three islands that the QM II
can dock. It has to anchor off St. Maarten and St. Thomas.
St. Kitts is also included in New York
to the Caribbean sailings by the Queen Mary II from
November 26, 2005 to January 3, 2006.
From November 26 to December 8, and from
December 8 to 20, 2005, the QM II will visit San Juan,
St. Maarten, Martinique, Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts
and St. Thomas. From December 20, 2005 to January 3,
2006, its ports of call will be Puerto Rico, St. Kitts,
Grenada, Barbados, St. Vincent, Martinique, St. Maarten
and St. Thomas.
For
the 2004/2005 Cruise Ship Season the 2,600 passenger
and 1,253 crew QM II visited St. Kitts on Dec 23, 2004;
Jan. 12, 19 and 26; Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2005.
The QM II, which stopped in St. Kitts
on its maiden voyage on February 3, 2004, is believed
to have docked at Port Zante in St. Kitts more times
than any other Caribbean destination since its inauguration.
Between February 2004 and April 2005, the ship of superlatives
would have made 13 stops in Basseterre.
